Do I need to inform the DVLA if I need glasses for driving?

No, you do not need to notify the DVLA simply because you need glasses for driving.
What you MUST do:

Wear glasses or contact lenses every time you drive if you require them to meet the DVLA's vision standards
Declare at licence application: When you apply for your provisional or full driving licence, you must declare whether you wear glasses while driving (your licence may then be endorsed with code 01)

Tell DVLA about problems affecting both eyes: You must inform DVLA if you have any problem with your eyesight that affects both of your eyes, or the remaining eye if you only have one eye.

Notify if you fail to meet vision standards: You must notify DVLA if you fail to meet the vision standards for driving, even with glasses

Declare notifiable eye conditions: You must self-declare any eye conditions listed by DVLA as reportable conditions

The vision standards you must meet:

You must be able to read a car number plate from 20 metres (with glasses or contact lenses if necessary) and have a visual acuity of at least 6/12 on the Snellen scale

Key responsibilities:

The College of Optometrists and the Optometrist professional body the AOP recommend having a sight test every two years, or more often if recommended by your optometrist

In summary: Simply needing glasses doesn't require DVLA notification, but you must ensure you always meet the legal vision standards when driving and declare this need when applying for your licence.
